Who is the real me?

Am pondering this question because I was listening to Brene Brown’s book “The gift of Imperfection: Let go of who you think You’re supposed to be and Embrace who you are.”

Just so the reader doesn’t feel left out, I believe all of us have or will at some point in our lives ask ourselves this question. Rest assured, I’ve asked myself this question many times. And usually my answer changes each time I ask it.  This shouldn’t be surprising since each of us is constantly becoming.

About ten years ago, I decided my life’s purpose was to “Enjoy all the gifts my creator provided for me and to help other people do the same.  The first part of this purpose is fairly simply to do.  The second part took a bit more of soul searching and keeping my eyes open for opportunities as they came my way.  BTW, the creator constantly sends countless opportunities our way knowing that no matter how dense we are one of them will hit us so hard in the face, it gets our attention.

In recent years, I now verbalize it as “the world becomes better as each person increases their value of themselves.  I show others their value thru kindness with a heartfelt card that’s treasured always.”

This spills over into seeking ways to be kind, appreciative and grateful to others.  I’m getting much better a tit.  This has led me to be more open and therefore vulnerable than I use to be. And guess what?  People seem to like me more because of that.

Wouldn’t you know it after all the effort we put into dressing ourselves as we think we need to be, we are better off relaxing and allowing the real us to shine through.

When we are vulnerable, we give permission to others to become vulnerable.  That brings joy into, not only our lives, but the lives of those we meet.  And life becomes easier for both.  I wonder what the real me will look like next year?

Have a wonderful day!
